Democratization of cryptocurrencies is progressing, but problems of understanding persist! Nearly two-thirds of Americans say they don’t understand blockchain well, according to a shocking survey. A surprising observation, at least in 2024, when Bitcoin and decentralized digital currencies have never been more popular.

Younger generations are more comfortable with cryptocurrencies!

60% of Americans are not yet familiar with crypto and blockchain related concepts. However, behind these alarming numbers, there are some glimmers of hope. Indeed, the study reveals that millennials are the generation most informed about the mysteries of cryptocurrency. Remarkable progress, albeit tempered by a significant difference in knowledge between men and women.

But perhaps the most worrying part lies with the cryptocurrency investors themselves! No less than 35% of them, across all age groups, admit that they do not understand this topic. An artistic blur especially pronounced among young people from Generation Z.

Strong appetite for training, guarantee of development

Despite this glaring deficit in blockchain literacy, the outlook is not so bleak. According to the same survey, 27% of respondents said they want to learn more through educational resources. A very real appetite for knowledge, including 40% of respondents who have yet to dive into crypto investing.

This growing interest confirms that demystifying this emerging ecosystem remains a major challenge. For example, the concepts of NFTs and metaversions remain a mystery to most Americans. An opportunity for cryptocurrency players to double their educational efforts!

At the same time, the data also reveals geographic differences, with some states such as Florida, Washington state and California leading online searches for crypto jargon. Terms like DAO, DEX or ICO are particularly closely scrutinized, illustrating the persistent gray areas for the general public.

The year 2024 confirms that the mass adoption of Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies inevitably requires more popularization and education resources. If the progress is real, this survey reminds us of the crucial importance of the democratization of knowledge for the sustainable embedding of the blockchain revolution in our societies. A big challenge, but so exciting for enthusiasts!
